The Conference was attended by over 2,000 representatives of Workforce Development Boards from throughout the United States. The role of the Workforce Development Board is to design and implement workforce development strategies that meet the needs of businesses and the workforce. Representatives met to share workforce |
initiatives for first jobs, better jobs, and high skill occupations. Notable government policymakers and executives spoke at the Forum, including Department of Labor Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training, Emily Stover DeRocco. Mr. Dobson expressed the importance of attending the Forum to keep abreast of the upcoming changes in the workforce program. Mr. Dobson said that “The workforce community will be facing an extraordinary agenda in 2005, including reauthorization, impending federal budget cuts, and an increased demand to provide services for employers and workers”. By attending the Forum, the local Workforce Development Board members and staff can continue to prepare to meet the employment needs of the local community with the changes in the legislation. |
