Councils & Committees


Three councils and two committees comprise the Workforce Development Board of Okaloosa and Walton Counties. These councils and committees are tasked with developing strategies to target the needs of employers and job seekers across the employment spectrum as well as to oversee and market the workforce services offered in the two-county region.

The Business Competitiveness Council serves as a catalyst between local industries, economic development councils, and training providers to identify skills needed to fill critical jobs necessary for business retention, expansion and recruitment activities. The council assists in aligning the region

The JobsPlus Council is merger of the BetterJobs/BetterWages Council and the One Stop Steering Committee. The JobsPLUSCouncil strives to assure quality service delivery to the Business Customer, the Universal Job Seeker, and to special populations, including Veterans, Welfare Transition Program Participants, Workforce Investment Act Program Participants, and the Disabled. The mission will be accomplished by employing the following strategies: providing general oversight of One-Stop service delivery; building partnerships with agencies that share common goals; sharing information and resources with other Workforce Board Councils.

The Youth Development Council promotes successful entry into the workforce through education and job experience, including school-to-work initiatives that enlist business and community support to ensure that students have the educational and occupational skills required to succeed in the workforce. The council addresses adults entering the workforce for the first time and youth programs related to welfare reform. First time entrants may include students, displaced homemakers, older Americans, veterans, persons with disability and/or welfare recipients as well as youth who are no longer enrolled in schools. The council also oversees the JobsPlus Youth Stops located in schools, community centers, and community based organizations.

The Communications and Outreach Committee promotes the Workforce Development Board and the JobsPlus One-Stop Centers through clear, consistent advertising, publicity and community involvement. The committee seeks to achieve an increasingly higher level of name recognition of the JobsPlus name and an increasingly higher rate of employer involvement in the design and use of the JobsPlus system.

The Finance Committee sets fiscal policy and ensures the fiscal integrity of the Workforce Development Board. The committee approves all budgets and selects the accounting firm to perform the annual audit.
